Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a railway budget of over Rs 10,000 crore [1] for infrastructure development in Bihar.

This investment aims to modernize the state's rail network and increase capacity in the Patna region to handle growing passenger and freight demands. The scale of the funding reflects a strategic push to upgrade transportation hubs in one of India's most populous states.

Vaishnaw said that the central government is currently executing railway projects in Bihar valued at approximately Rs 1.15 lakh crore [2]. He said that the development of the rail network in the state is proceeding in a new manner.

A primary focus of the current expansion is the Patna area. To increase the overall capacity of the region, the government is constructing a new facility at Harding Park in Patna, which will include five new platforms [3].

Regarding the financial allocation, reports indicate the record sum of more than Rs 10,000 crore [4] is designated for rail infrastructure. While some reports describe this as the current financial year's allocation, others specify the funding is for FY27 [4].

"PM Modi has given a railway budget of more than Rs 10,000 crores for Bihar, and railway projects worth about Rs 1,15,000 crores are going on in Bihar," Vaishnaw said.

The minister said that the construction at Harding Park is a critical step in relieving congestion within the city's existing rail infrastructure. He said the new station is designed to expand the reach and efficiency of the entire Patna area.

Railway development is taking place in Bihar in a very new way.

The allocation of over Rs 10,000 crore, coupled with the broader Rs 1.15 lakh crore investment, signals a massive scaling of Bihar's transit infrastructure. By focusing on the Patna hub through the Harding Park expansion, the government is attempting to resolve systemic bottlenecks in the state's rail artery, which is essential for both regional economic growth and the movement of labor across the state.
