Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bhogapuram International Airport, also known as Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district.
The project is part of a broader strategy to transform the North Andhra region through massive infrastructure investments. By establishing a greenfield airport and improving connectivity, the government aims to attract industrial investment and stimulate regional economic growth.
Along with the airport, the Prime Minister launched a suite of infrastructure projects valued between ₹17,900 crore [1] and nearly ₹18,000 crore [2]. These initiatives include the development of semiconductor facilities and renewable-energy projects designed to modernize the state's industrial base.
The new aviation hub is built to handle six million passengers per year [1]. This capacity is intended to alleviate pressure on existing regional airports and provide a direct gateway for international trade and tourism to the Vizianagaram area.
In addition to the airport and energy sectors, the project push includes significant highway upgrades. These road improvements are intended to connect the new airport with surrounding industrial corridors, ensuring a seamless flow of goods and services.
Modi said the goal is to create a "Swarna Andhra" through these developments. The integration of high-tech manufacturing and sustainable energy is a central pillar of the regional plan to boost employment and local business opportunities.

The inauguration of the Bhogapuram International Airport represents a strategic shift toward decentralizing industrial growth in India. By pairing a high-capacity international airport with semiconductor and renewable-energy projects, the government is attempting to create an integrated economic ecosystem in North Andhra. This approach seeks to reduce the reliance on existing urban hubs and establish the region as a competitive destination for global tech and energy investments.
