Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow said Friday that four new underground stations will extend the Cross Island Line by 10 km [2].
The expansion aims to improve connectivity for residents of Taman Jurong and workers in western industrial estates. By increasing the total length of the line to about 67 km [3], the project will establish the Cross Island Line as Singapore's longest fully underground MRT line [1].
The new stretch will specifically connect Taman Jurong to key industrial hubs. The plan includes the creation of interchanges at Jurong Pier and Gul Circle [1, 2] to streamline transit across the western region.
Construction for the four new stations is expected to begin in 2027 [2]. According to the announcement, the stations are slated to open by the late 2030s [1].
Siow said the extension is designed to better serve the needs of the workforce and the community in the west. The project represents a significant investment in the city's long-term infrastructure to reduce reliance on surface transport in industrial zones [1, 3].
