President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) leads Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) in a potential second-round matchup for the 2026 presidential election.
The polling data suggests a continuing divide in the Brazilian electorate as the nation approaches its next general election. The results indicate the current administration's standing against the Bolsonaro political legacy in a head-to-head scenario.
A poll conducted by Meio/Ideia shows Lula with 48% support [1], while Flávio Bolsonaro holds 43% [2]. The survey was fielded between July 31 and August 3 and released on Wednesday, August 5 [3].
This represents a slight increase for the president, who held 46.5% support in a previous poll conducted in May [4]. During that same May period, Flávio Bolsonaro's support stood at 41.4% [5].
The Meio/Ideia poll surveyed 1,500 respondents across Brazil [6]. The margin of error for the findings is ±2.5 percentage points [7].
Other polling firms have reported differing results. A Quaest poll cited by G1 showed Lula leading with 45% against 37% for Flávio Bolsonaro [8]. Conversely, Bloomberg reported that Flávio Bolsonaro leads by a small margin [9].
The Meio/Ideia data suggests Lula would also defeat other potential candidates, including Zema, Caiado, and Renan, in a second-round scenario [10].
“Lula leads with 48% vs 43% for Flávio Bolsonaro.”
The variance between Meio/Ideia, Quaest, and Bloomberg results indicates a highly volatile political climate where no single candidate has secured a dominant lead. While Lula maintains a consistent edge in two of the major polls, the presence of a competing lead in Bloomberg data suggests that the 2026 runoff remains competitive and susceptible to shifts in voter sentiment.
