A double-typhoon system consisting of Typhoon No. 13 and Typhoon No. 15 is currently approaching Okinawa and the Kanto region [1, 2].
The convergence of these two systems creates a high-risk weather environment for both southern islands and the mainland. The interaction of warm, moist air has triggered rapid atmospheric changes, leading to sudden heavy rain in the Kanto region and dangerous sea conditions [1, 2].
In Okinawa Prefecture, Minami Daito village is facing the most severe wind projections. Forecasters said they expect a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 55 m/s in the village [2]. Local observations recorded a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 31.1 m/s at 13:41 local time on Aug. 6 [1].
While the center of the systems targets the south, the Kanto region is experiencing significant instability. Heavy rain has been reported across the region, including Tokyo's Kanda district, and Edogawa Ward [1, 2]. The adjacent Kanto sea has become extremely rough, resulting in an official swimming ban to protect public safety [1, 2].
Authorities said they are monitoring the movement of both storms as they track toward Japan. The combination of these two systems increases the likelihood of unpredictable precipitation patterns and prolonged wind events across the archipelago [1, 2].
