The Nigerian House of Representatives is working to revive the abandoned 330kV [1] Ikot Ekpene–Ikot Abasi Transmission Line Project in Akwa Ibom State.
Completion of the project is critical for boosting the regional power supply and stabilizing the electrical grid in the state. The project has faced significant delays due to a combination of financial shortfalls and local disputes.
The House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets said it has pledged to work with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to resolve the issues. The committee is focusing on funding constraints and lingering community issues that have prevented the completion of the project, known as Lot 18T [2].
According to the committee, the goal is to ensure that the 330kV [1] double circuit transmission line becomes operational. This infrastructure is intended to bridge the gap in power distribution across the Ikot Ekpene and Ikot Abasi areas [1].
"The National Assembly has pledged to work with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company to resolve funding constraints and lingering community issues delaying the completion of the abandoned 330kV Double Circuit Ikot Ekpene-Ikot Abasi Transmission Line Project in Akwa Ibom State," the committee said [2].
The effort represents a legislative push to recover public assets and ensure that previous investments in energy infrastructure are not wasted. By engaging the NDPHC, the committee aims to create a roadmap for the final stages of construction and commissioning [2].
