In the National Capital Region, which includes Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad, the agency forecast continued heavy rain until Aug. 8 [4, 5]. The city has already recorded a minimum temperature of 26 °C [3].
While Delhi remains under an orange alert [1, 2], other regions face varying levels of risk. The IMD placed Kerala under a red alert and Assam under a yellow alert [1]. The disparity in alert levels reflects the expected intensity of the precipitation across different geographic corridors.
Local disruptions have already begun to manifest in the capital. Waterlogging has slowed traffic and led to various advisories, including work-from-home recommendations in Gurugram [2]. These conditions often paralyze the city's transport network — a recurring challenge during the peak monsoon season.
Beyond the current alerts, the seasonal toll has been severe in northern mountainous regions. Reports indicate that 64 people have died in Himachal since the onset of the monsoon [6]. This figure underscores the lethal potential of the current weather system when combined with the unstable terrain of the Himalayas.
