Nithin Kamath, CEO of Zerodha, said the auction is exposing deeper cracks in the market structure [1]. He said that limited liquidity and a narrow arbitrage window have amplified price swings during these final moments [1].
The impact of this volatility was evident during a recent Tuesday expiry. The Nifty index moved approximately 150 points between 3:15 PM and the auction close [1]. This rapid movement occurred after the standard cash market trading had already ceased, leaving traders to navigate a high-volatility environment with fewer tools for stabilization [1].
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) oversees the implementation of the CAS [1, 2]. While the intent was to align Indian markets with global standards for price discovery, the immediate result has been a period of market chaos characterized by erratic price jumps just before the bell [1, 2].
